CIVICA Capstone Project Competition
CIVICA is an alliance funded under the Erasmus+ programme, uniting ten leading European higher education institutions in the field of social sciences, with the primary ambition of serving European societies and educating the forthcoming generations of Europeans. To pursue this mission, CIVICA provides the necessary knowledge and tools to understand and influence an increasingly complex world.
The Europeanship Multi-Campus course “The Future of Europe” is one of CIVICA’s flagship initiatives for Master Students. Inaugurated during the Academic Year 2021/2022, it recently concluded its third edition in the Fall semester of Academic Year 2023/2024. The course, jointly designed and taught by six professors from six partner universities, aims to outline and critically appraise challenging areas of policy-making faced by the European Union.
Throughout the semester, more than 120 students have worked split in thirty transnational teams on their capstone projects, under the supervision of six researchers and instructors from six CIVICA partner universities. In this context, they have developed and proposed evidence-based solutions to four EU-relevant policy challenges: globalization, democracy, environment, and digitalization.
In the Academic Year 2021/2022, Fondazione Achille e Giulia Boroli launched the first CIVICA CAPSTONE PROJECT COMPETITION, awarding three prizes to students enrolled in the CIVICA Europeanship Multi-Campus course delivering the best three Capstone Projects. This year marks the celebration of its third edition.
Out of the thirty groups completing the capstone project during the 2023 edition of the course, fourteen have qualified for the Boroli award based on outstanding evaluations from their respective supervisors. From these fourteen finalists, three winning projects were selected by a committee of professors, coordinated by the Achille and Giulia Boroli Chair in European Studies, for their forward-thinking analysis and solutions to the assigned challenges.
On 22nd February 2024, the awarding ceremony for the three winning groups took place during the annual event of the Achille and Giulia Boroli Chair in European Studies in memory of Achille Boroli. The event, was organized as part of the European Economic Policy course, coordinated by Carlo Altomonte. It is also part of the academic activities of the Achille and Giulia Boroli Chair in European Studies, assigned to Gianmarco Ottaviano. The winners were presented with a monetary prize funded by Fondazione Achille e Giulia Boroli.
